The Scoville Brothers Hot Sauces Review #2

Today’s review is of the Scoville Brothers hot sauces. Rockin’ Red, Viva Verde, and Singing Smoke.

First off I’d like to thank Doug and Jeff for allowing me to review their not yet released sauces and also for the private concert at our home. It was a blast!

The labels on the sauces are very simple computer printed. Not the finished label that will go on the bottles when produced, but I really love the guitar playing pepper. It’s something I think they should stick with to keep with the musical end.

The ingredients on the labels are very simple with the peppers coming first and vinegar almost last. Of course each label only said Red Chiles, Green Chiles and Smoked Chiles. I don’t know the variety but by color except the smoked. lol.

I was hoping for non-breathtaking vinegary sauces. And I was not disappointed there. You could not taste the vinegar in the sauces at all…except maybe a hint in the red sauce. Also salt being last on the list of ingredients is a plus for me.

Rockin’ Red is a nice simple sauce with some bite! I couldn’t place the chiles used in the flavor, but I was relieved that it didn’t have the cayenne ick to it! Nice heat with my tacos and on chicken.

Viva Verde, while it is nice and hot, it tastes green. I am not a green sauce fan anyways and I don’t know how to explain that green taste. This sauce starts out with a little sweet then the green taste takes over before the heat kicks in! You can taste the green tomato. Again, it’s hotter than I expected.

Singing Smoke was so flavorful. It’s my favorite of the 3 sauces. When I tasted it alone with chicken, rice, chips or tacos the smoky taste is just great! The pepper is what you taste nothing else. And again the heat level is up there…

All 3 sauces took me by surprise with how hot they were. I just didn’t expect the heat to be as high. The real downfall these sauces have is that they are way too thin and separate after a short time of sitting. Hopefully they can adjust this before they launch their product to the public.

If the guitar pepper isnt prominant on the production label, I agree that it should be on there somewhere. It is definitely brand-able.

I like the pepper, but shouldn’t there maybe be two of them? “Scoville Brothers” is plural, right? I think a great label could be built around a couple of guitar playing peppers.

These sauces sound really good, and I wouldn’t mind the thinness so much as long as the sauces packed a lot of flavor. Some of my favorite sauces are pretty thin, but still taste great.

      Nice review Sandi! :tu:

Thanks DK! I agree about the guitar playing peppers..there should be 2..maybe a green and a red one. It’s funny how Ethan and I had different impressions on the vinegar taste. But the Singin’ Smoke was my favorite of the sauces also!
