Multi-Review: All Spice Cafe- Cayenne Habanero
By Buddah | September 16, 2008 |

STEVE & MELANIE
Back for the last, but not least, third review of All Spice Cafe sauces. This time the Cayenne Habanero Sauce will go up against our amateur taste buds.
After enjoying the Caribbean Spice & Garlic Chipotle sauces, we were really looking forward to this “Buffalo Wing” style sauce. I have to admit that I had a sneak preview of this one at the Fiery Food show, but that was only a small amount on a chip, so don’t hold it against me. The bottle rates this as XXX, which would have made me very worried that my sensitive tummy could not handle it. However, based on my memory on the chip, I felt it was definitely hot, but not enough to hurt me – at least not that bad, and I was not worried about Melanie.
The color was that cayenne-habanero orange-red hue that made our mouths water just looking at it. As always, we shook the bottle and took a deep whiff. Aaaahhhhh! Just what we imagined. You could smell the cayenne and habaneros right away. It made me want to go right to the chicken, but we had to go in order.
Again, we were dippers and did not cook with the sauce. We tried it with BBQ shrimp, chicken, chicken kabobs and steak. 1st up was the shrimp, and I think Melanie found a new favorite to chicken wings – Buffalo Style BBQ Shrimp. The sauce had a great flavor and was hot, but not a killer heat. You could really enjoy the flavor and the food without having to rub a napkin over your tongue and drink a couple of beers to stop the pain. Although, we had a couple of beers anyway.
As you would expect, it went wonderful with the chicken breast. Can’t wait for the wings! I can also picture baking this into some breaded cutlets, for some boneless buffalo chicken! Again, it went very well with the chicken kabobs. What’s not to like?
As for the BBQ’ed filets, it was also surprisingly good. We have not had Cayenne-Habanero on steak before and it was tasty. Based on the recipe on the label and our tastes – it’s best with chicken and shrimp.
In summary, the All Spice Cafe Cayenne Habanero Sauce is a great taste for wings! It covered the food well and we liked it with everything we tried. It is not an extreme heat, but has a kick and a great flavor we are really enjoyed and recommend.
SANDI

The label is so creative with the description…”A hot, delicious & spicy blend of cayenne, garlic and habaneros.”
Ingredients: Aged cayenne peppers, distilled vinegar, canola oil, granulated garlic, habanero powder, cayenne powder, salt and xantham gum.
The All Spice Cafe Cayenne Habanero sauce has a light orange color. It seemed very thin when I shook up the bottle, and it had some little white specks which I was hoping to be pepper powder and garlic powder, and not salt.
It had a very strong smell of vinegar, but nothing else really stood out. I expected to smell the peppers, but the vinegar took over. Perfect wing sauce candidate! Looks like a wing sauce, smells like a wing sauce, so it must be one.
On it’s own this sauce was vinegary and peppery. A little salty for my taste, but definitely a wing sauce. The label says XXX but I didn’t really get a ton of heat from this sauce. Just a slight burn on my tongue. While it stuck around for a few minutes it wasn’t at all unbearable- even 3 tablespoons later, just to make sure.
Wings? Absolutely!!! You know that wing sauce vinegar smell that almost takes your breath away before you can take a bite? It’s here. The heat was more predominate on the wings. One of those type of sauces that the more you eat the hotter it gets. I couldn’t get over how good this sauce worked with the wings. I tried dipping a few meats in this sauce, but in my opinion it is meant for chicken. A great spicy sauce. Good job!
I also want to thank JD again for letting me experience his sauces and do the reviews for them. I had an enjoyable time trying them all out.

All Spice Cafe Cayenne Habanero is the third hot sauce that I had the pleasure to review. When we got the bottles, I decided to do the reviews in order of heat ranking. We went from Mild to Hot to XXX. Everyone has a different level of heat, and to me I have had a lot of hotter sauces, but in the the All Spice Cafe lineup this is the hottest one of the bunch. The tag line that many use in the fiery food industry, “flavor over fire” applies in spades here. Once I tasted this sauce on my chicken, I knew I had a tasty sauce and even if the heat could be kicked up some more, there is no denying the taste was not sacrificed in making this fine product.

This is wing sauce for the wing fan, and even if I didn’t make wings with it, it was perfect on my chicken. This immediately became my All Spice Cafe All Star Sauce. I wanted to polish off the bottle on more chicken, butas a reviewer my instinct was to add to the review with something special. On the website it mentions to try the Cayenne Habanero sauce with some marinara on top of spaghetti. I wasn’t too sure I wanted to try that, but there is fast food spaghetti place near by and I figure I would take home a little. I got the trio of pasta which was meat lasagna, spaghetti with meat sauce and fettucine alfredo. While it wasn’t bad with the meat sauce, I really thought that adding a little to the alfredo sauce ready made my meal. I wish I had taken a picture of the color which really enhanced the look of the dish. At one point I added more and I added too much and ruined the pasta. So just a little dab will do alfredo right.
While I had italian food on my mind, I had an idea. I ordered some pizza to do another review, but while I was getting that I ordered some fried calamari. I don’t know why, but I just had a feeling the fried calamari would soak up the sauce and make a great appy-teaser. Wow, this was another awesome application. The breading totally absorbed the sauce like a sponge and I have to say if you like calamari and wing sauce then this is the meal you will remember and might even serve at a party.

I was in a rush this morning with some errands and since I am in the process of moving, I wanted to polish off the remaining food I had left. I scoured the cupboard for something to eat and low and behold I found a can of green beans. No need to pack that up in a box when that was easy eatings. Green beans for breakfast? You betcha. I looked in the fridge for the proper condiment to add to my canned veg, and I thought why not try the All Spice Cafe Cayenne Habanero. I poured some all over the green beans and sampled. Mmm good. I then nuked them and had created a breakfast of champions. The sauce did give me a nice tasty burn for my startup meal.

I think I might try some on some canned greens next. I did notice that in my cupboard too. I have to eat that before I move ya know. So in closing, the next time you have the opportunity to experiment with food, do it with some good hot sauce like the All Spice Cafe has. You never know what you might create will be the meal you will go to again and again. Thanks JD for allowing TTF and especially myself to enjoy your great products.

Hey Turk,
Tell me a little more about the “I like it Hot Festival.” Not familiar with it. I’ll be at the Fiery Food show in Feb. Day job is pretty crazy so it’s hard to know if I’ll make to Florida or not?
As far as the Golden Chile Awards go, the last award, Best Overall – Chipotle Garlic was a mistake. Best Overall is a marketing award which was awarded to my Cayenne Habanero label. Wished I could have been there for the whole weekend!
