As Seen On TV – Kickers!
By DK | November 22, 2009 |
Last night while flipping channels on the TV I stumbled onto a show where the people looked awfully familiar. As in, “Hey, I know that guy!” familiar. So I sat the remote down and watched the remainder of the show.
The “guy” that I recognized was Abdel Dimiati, the owner of Kickers Restaurant here in Greenwood. Kickers is a very small place located only a couple of blocks from my house. Their menu is one of the most original of any place that I’ve ever eaten, especially here in Greenwood. Abdel’s use of spices and mix of flavors in his dishes to me are really what makes this place stand out. There’s nothing “run of the mill” or bland about Kickers.
The one dish that has me hooked is the Classic Cuban Sandwich. The spiced pork is prepared with habaneros. The Cuban is one spicy sandwich! And there’s no warning on the menu either! The first time I ordered one of these, I was shocked when I immediately broke out in a sweat and the back of my throat started tingling, from the first bite! I was completely surprised to find something on a menu somewhere that was actually spicy, and spicier than the menu led to believe! Now it wasn’t killer hot, but it definitely got my attention. On occasion I’ll order it “extra” spicy and they will add more habanero to it to really get it smokin’.
To add a little to the video, I’m including some pics below of the old location that’s mentioned. As small as the new location is, the original place was tiny small. This first pic was snapped just outside of the front door.

This second pic was snapped just inside of the door as I was standing in front of the cash register. Yep, that’s the whole place, the kitchen and the dining area. About as tiny as it can get for a dine in establishment. Well, I guess technically it was a take-out place, with a dine-in option, but it was still pretty darned small!

No, this next pic isn’t the Cuban, it’s the Caribbean Turkey Burger. While not spicy hot like the Cuban, this thing is every bit as flavorful. Besides, I’ve never had a Cuban sit on the plate long enough to snap a pic.

To close, here’s a copy of the Kickers menu. Well, it’s an old copy from their old location, but most if not all of the items are still there.

OK, I’ll shut up now so you can go watch the video. I just wanted to share a little bit of hometown goodness with everyone. If you’re ever in this neck of the woods, be sure to give Kickers a visit.
-Enjoy
