Buddah’s Sunday Update From The North Market in Columbus….

We rolled in last night at about 2am, DK and his nephew Dalton were pretty much running on fumes after being so sleep deprived over the last 48 hrs.
We talked for hours at the restaurant and then at the CaJohn homestead. I could’ve listened to CaJohn talk longer, but DK needed some well needed beauty rest. I’ll admit, we were all very tired, but CaJohn kept telling us interesting stories, so it was hard not to ask questions. Eventually DK grabbed my empty waterbottle and shoved it my mouth to shut me up.
The Mexican restaurant had good food and even carried some of CaJohn’s products like Mamba & Oaxacan with different labels. Sandie, Bill, & Hudd had some Mamba without blinking an eye. People were splashing Oaxacan on their food like it was going out of style. I loved the stuff all over my avocado- chicken tosada. The waiter also brought out these deep fried jalapenos that were salted and they were so good.
Going back to some of the hot stuff I tried:
Killer Cayenne: There are 2 versions. One in the bottle that you can buy and the one we had not for sale at the factory. The difference is the heat. The one at the factory has such a long burn delay you don’t think one is ever coming. The taste truly reminds me of a dijon or honey mustard salad dressing when you first have it. I think if the heat wasn’t there then it would perfect with a bowl of greens. The regular version didn’t give me the same impression. It was tasty, but I enjoyed the hotter taste better.
Lethal Ingestion: Because of time restraints the wings with this sauce never were brought out. After the competition DK took a bite of one and declared it to be very hot, so I asked for one. The taste is really good. Talon is where this sauce originates from, so that is why it was packed with flavor. As soon as I was done with my wing the heat hit me, and it hit hard. The pain was relentless, and the burn was building. It was described to me like bees in your mouth. I couldn’t agree more. My lips were stinging. I drank water to help my stomach, but everyone here knows that don’t help with your mouth at all. Folks, this is the hottest stuff I ever tried in my mouth. CaJohn said it was over 2 million scov. units and could even be made hotter without any extract taste. Nice achievement. The burn died down over the next 20-30 minutes.
Private Reserve Bbq line: The Apple Smoked Bourbon Chipotle Bbq Sauce was clearly my favorite amongst all the different flavors. There were other flavors I liked, but this one I bought. The Raspberry-Vodka one was just too sweet for me and not a fan of the Carolina Style I didn’t think too much for that one. Although I heard mmm’s from others trying it by me. The Lime-Tequila bbq was tasty, but was 2nd in tastes for me. There was another Apple flavored one, but that one was missing something, but not bad at all.
Urban Chef’s spicy bbq sauce: This one had a very nice flavor, and it was a standout amongst the other bottles he had out for taste testing. Not sure those products were sellable to me because the tastes were so flat.
Sauce Cartel Hot Sauce: Formerly Hell’s Kitchen Hot Sauce, Gary has changed the name because his other partner and him had separate visions. The vision I tasted was quite good. I bought 3 products, but I plan doing a review, so I will talk about 1 of them, apple sauce. If you like apple sauce and u r a chilehead, then this product is for you. I really liked it and the unique burn I got afterwards. Tasty stuff. Gary and his new partner Nash have come up some very good stuff. They gave some freebie hot sauce gifts with my purchase, and those labels are quite funny. More on that on my review down the road.
Chuck Evans’ Montezuma line of salsa- Some good salsa here, but the new standout for me is his Raspberry Smoked Chipotle Salsa. I was surprised I liked it so much. Same goes for his lime version which was my favorite last time I sampled at JJ’s.
Okay, shut up Buddah. I’m gonna call my parents and tell them that I got 2nd place for my chili. I am still shocked that I won, but just to get the compliments that I received from the public that sampled it was more than enough for me. Wish you guys were here to try it too because I value your opinions. It was fun hangining with all of the TTFers that were here, plus their families and friends. It was a ball. Wafflehouse will be our last group outing with Bill, Sandi, their cute kid Andrew(who loved my chili btw), DK, Dalton, and my friend Eric before we hit the road.
Later folks!

Actually Gary posted under enough name right after FMK. Nonetheless welcome back!
