Justin:
I made the video review for these 2 sauces first, but after trying them on food I wanted to also do a write up. The reason for it is that on food they are surprisingly different than when you just eat a tablespoon of them. I’m starting off with Chits Eat Chit and Die Inferno Hot Sauce because that one was my favorite and its what I feel like eating right now. I made some Hamburger Helper (cheesy hash browns) and mixed some of this sauce onto my plate. Although I didn’t put a lot of sauce on my dish to begin with, it has a lot of flavor. Mainly it tastes like a cayenne sauce with a background of carrots and habaneros. There is a slight extract taste/smell to the sauce but its barely noticeable and by no means ruins the flavor of the sauce. The vinegar is present but not overpowering and the heat level on food is that of your average habanero sauce. I think that’s about all I have to say that I didn’t in the video about this one but if you haven’t watched the video you should definitely do that.

The other sauce talked about in the video, Kick Yo Ass Hot Sauce, I think I covered very well and have little to add. I will say that it is hotter on food than expected after eating the tablespoon but still not really enough to call hot. It is a spicy sauce that has a very generic flavor, and listing extracts on the label is misleading. I’m not saying that it doesn’t have extracts in it, just that they are limited and unnoticeable. So to wrap the review up I recommend Chit’s to anyone that’s looking for a good tasting sauce with a medium heat level, or also to anyone that’s new to extract sauces and wants a sauce that the extracts make there presence but the sauce still has an edible flavor and heat level. Kick Yo Ass Hot Sauce I don’t recommend to anybody. ~Justin

Reviewer #1 – Justin

I’m not really big on jalapeno sauces but I enjoy them from time to time and right now they sound good so it’s the perfect time to do this review. The first thing I noticed about the appearance of this sauce is how dark it is. It is green but it’s a lot darker than any other jalapeno sauce I have ever had plus it’s got a black label on it to make it look darker.

I bought some pizza to eat it on today but my favorite use of jalapeno sauces is in quesadillas. I opened the bottle and took a whiff before pouring it and the smell took me completely off guard. The first thing I thought was rubbing alcohol; I took a little deeper sniff of it and got the same thing with jalapenos in the background. I decided to read the ingredients before trying it and I see that it had tequila in it, although that has to be where the alcohol smell is coming from it don’t smell like tequila. I poured some on my pizza and the thickness is perfect. It pours easily, sticks to my food, and gets a perfect score for the consistency. I took a bite and really tried to taste the tequila but all I got was rubbing alcohol and jalapenos again. The jalapeno taste is more of a fresh raw jalapeno and it gets big points there. Most jalapeno sauces taste more like pickled jalapenos just because of the vinegar base. This sauce has vinegar in it but I don’t taste it.

After trying it on quesadillas (a few hours after starting this review) my opinion hasn’t changed. I don’t hate the sauce and I will eventually eat the whole bottle but I can’t recommend it either. If it tasted a little more like tequila than just alcohol, and if it wasn’t so overpowering it would be great.

Reviewer #2 – Hudd

I love these labels this company uses. Whew! I took the cap off and took a sniff. It has a horseradish type smell to it right off. Nice texture and some pepper seed visible. I dip a Little Smokey into the sauce and bite into it. So once again I find another green hot sauce I just don’t care for. I’m tasting mostly vinegar and some jalapeno flavor comes through. If you’re into green jalapeno sauces this may be for you, but I just don’t see this as being a sauce I would use.

Marie Sharp’s Belizean Heat

Ingredients: habanero pepper mash, capsium oil, fresh carrots, vinegar, lime juice, tomato, Creole spices, onions, garlic and salt.

I have seen this sauce and heard of it, but never really heard anyone talk about it or say if they liked it. When I first opened the bottle I put some on a tortilla chip and it was quite tasty, so I made a plate of nachos.

First, I put on the Belizean Heat, then Tostitos, then the shredded cheese. When it came out of the microwave I ate a couple and added more Belizean Heat.

The nachos were very good and I really enjoyed the flavor of this sauce. Something about it reminds me of the Walkerswood seriously hot Jonkanoo sauce, and if you have had this sauce and like it, I would recommend trying the Walkerswood. I tried this sauce on a variety of foods and it went good with everything I put it on, especially the egg rolls. I used this sauce in place of soy sauce and just poured a little on each bit as I was eating.

It is a fairly thin sauce, but not to the point of being runny, and you can see in the picture the bits of seeds in it. The heat wasn’t high, but the flavor is good enough to buy it again. I have a bottle of Marie Sharp’s Beware in the cabinet ready to be opened, and when I read the ingredients they are about the same with only two small differences. The Belizean Heat says lime juice and Creole Spices Beware says key lime juice and n’awlins Cajun spices and Creole spices. I know Beware is supposed to be a hotter sauce, and I’m hoping its just a hotter version of Belizean Heat, because the only way to make Belizean Heat better would be to make it a little hotter.

Taste: 9/10
Heat: 3/10
Smell: great
Consistency/Thickness: 10/10 for both, I like my sauces a little thin but not to the point that they are runny and don’t stay on your food, and this sauce is perfect.
Price: $5.50 is the price on my bottle and its well worth it.
Recommendation: Would I buy it again? Yes and yes.

Buying info:
I got this off the bottle made by Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods ltd. Stann Creek Belize, Central America. I looked it up and got this <a target="_blank "href="http://www.mariesharps-bz.com">http://www.mariesharps-bz.com

Z…nothing beyond is made by CaJohn’s Fiery Foods. It is similar to Wanza’s Wicked Temptation, but is in my opinion a lot better. The flavor is not as overpowering on food as Wanza’s was. I don’t know the actual shu ratings for either of these sauces, but although this is made with 4 million shu extract and Wanza’s is made with 2 million shu extract, it doesn’t really taste that much hotter. The consistency is ok on this sauce, it is not too thick, not too thin. It has a dropper top, and I haven’t had any trouble with it lumping up around it and not coming out. The only ingredient I could taste or smell is the pepper extract. This sauce is good for cooking with, and adding to pretty much anything you want to make hot. I would recommend putting it on something that you can mix it up in.

My first taste test was on a spoon. It made me shutter the way a shot of strong whiskey would, and warmed my stomach the same way. I decided to make a frozen burrito, but instead of putting the sauce on top of it, I cut it opened and mixed it up with the insides. Then I melted a slice of cheese over the top. When I ate the burrito I could definitely taste the extracts, but they weren’t so overpowering that I couldn’t enjoy my meal.

Z…nothing beyond was the perfect sauce for my hot deviled eggs also, which is one of my favorite things to make for family dinners and pot lucks. Here is how I make them:

Hard boil the eggs

Deshell and cut them in half

Mix the yolks up with mayo, mustard, hot sauce, and finely diced jalapenos. Adding the mayo to the yolks first, a little at a time until it is creamy.

Then add the hot sauce and mustard to taste, (about 1-2 tablespoons of z depending on how hot you want them), and for a dozen eggs, or 24 deviled eggs I use about 1 1/2 jalapenos worth of sliced jarred jalapenos. Make sure they’re chopped up super fine. After I put this mixture back into the egg halves I usually sprinkle them with habanero powder that I dehydrated and ground up myself, but the ones in the picture have Blair’s death rain nitro on them.

Other uses for this sauce are in chili, mixed with mustard and spread on a burger, a few drops in a glass of v8 juice, mixed in with refried beans and nacho cheese for either dipping chips in or making nachos.

Taste: 4/10, not good flavor, the only thing you can taste is the extracts, but for an extract sauce it’s not too bad. I say that because the taste is not as overpowering. If used in cooking it can add heat without really changing the flavor too much.

Heat: 7/10 it don’t take a whole lot to spice up your favorite dish, but I’ve had hotter.

Consistency: 9/10

Packaging: 9/10 the label just has the big Z, nothing fancy about the design, but the shinny diamond cut pattern inside the Z and the little puddles of hot sauce in the background do look pretty cool.

Price: for $9.95 for a 5 oz bottle it is a good deal. I have had a lot hotter sauces that taste a lot better, but they are also a lot more money, none of my favorite extract sauces are made by CaJohn’s (although I haven’t had black mamba yet), but I eat more of his sauces than any other and the reason is that he make’s some really hot ones that are fairly priced. Although, they aren’t my absolute favorites, they’re still really good.

Smell: 2/10 the only thing I could smell in this sauce was the extracts.

Overall rating and recommendation: 7/10 if you’re a fan of Wanza’s I would recommend this sauce. I would also recommend it to someone who is looking for a sauce to cook with. If you want something to put directly on your food there are better ones out there, but probably not for this price.

***Update on price is now $10.50

<a http://www.tastethefear.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/endorphin-rush-beyond1.gif'>

My expectations of this hot sauce before opening the bottle was that it was going to be a very hot sauce. Unopened, the entire top of the bottle was a black liquid that I mistakenly took for extract. I also expected the sauce to be very thick because I really had to shake it for a while to mix it up. It turns out after opening it that it was just really full, and the black liquid must have been the soy sauce.

I tried this sauce first a little on my finger expecting extreme heat, and when it wasn’t hot I poured it onto a chicken chimichanga. The molasses in this sauce gave it a little hint of sweetness, but it still tasted pretty bad. If the sauce would have been as hot as I thought it was going to be, then the flavor would have been tolerable since I am the kind of person who usually puts heat over flavor, but this sauce didn’t have either. I have had store bought non-extract habanero sauces that were hotter than this one, and they tasted much better. Since I hate to let a bottle go to waste and I didn’t take pictures of my chimichanga, I decided to make a plate of chili cheese fries a couple days later. I just used store bought frozen fries deep fried for crispiness because the chili cheese makes them soggy after a while. I also used Hormel turkey chili without beans and tostitos nacho cheese. I put quite a bit of the Endorphin Rush Beyond hot sauce on my fries first, then the chili, then the cheese, and topped it all of with some jarred sliced jalapenos. The chili cheese covered up some of the flavor of the sauce, but it also covered up any heat that there was, and I have to say that the fries would have been much better without it.

Overall, I would not recommend this sauce.

Ingredients:
Tomato paste, water, pepper extract, vinegar, sugar, molasses, soy sauce.

Taste: 2/10

Heat: 3/10 on the extract scale

Consistency: 4/10 the thickness of the sauce is a little thicker than I like it but not bad. The reason I only gave it a 4 is because it clogs the top of the bottle and I need to clean it out every time I use the sauce or else I get nothing out.

Label: 4/10 It’s nothing fancy. The reason I gave it a 4 is because after trying it I decided I don’t like the name. If it was a hotter sauce it would be ok, but this sauce is not hot enough to be called endorphin rush.

Overall rating / Recommendation: 3/10 I would not recommend this sauce, after trying it I regret buying the bottle even at 40% off, and I am planning to take what remains of it to work and making it a community bottle because I wont finish it myself.

Price: 6.50 for a 5oz bottle, (that’s what the price tag on my bottle says anyway).

<a http://www.tastethefear.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/mustardgas.jpg'>

I love hot mustards, but rarely buy them because they usually are more mild than hot. I just buy regular mustard and mix it with extract sauces either on my food or in the mustard bottle when there is room. When I saw this sauce in the hottest sauces category I had to try it. It is rated at 125,000 scoville units and was fairly hot. The flavor was good also, but it was way too runny. At $8.95 for a 4 ounce bottle it is a bit expensive.

<a http://www.tastethefear.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/burger-with-mustard-gas.jpg'>

I used this sauce on burgers, bratwurst, in potato salad, on chicken patties, chicken nuggets, and grilled chicken, and it went well with all of them. I dipped the chicken nuggets in the Crazy Jerry’s Mustard Gas, and this was the only meal that I didn’t have it running down my hand. You might not see the sauce in the picture at first glance, because its so dark and its on the tomato. Flavorwise, it tastes like mustard and extract. The extract taste isn’t too strong though so don’t be turned off by that, it is worth trying.

Buying info: The bottle gives no website or phone number, but does say this:

Prepared for Crazy Jerry’s Inc.
P.O. Box 891
Roswell, GA 30077

I did some searching online and came up with their website:
<a target="_blank "href="http://www.crazyjerrysinc.com/category.cfm?category=2">www.crazyjerrysinc.com

Ingredients: distilled vinegar, mustard seed, water, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper extract, turmeric, mustard oil, and natural spices.

Heat: 5/10

Taste: 7/10

Consistence/Thickness: consistence’s good, thickness is about 4/10 because its way too thin to keep on a burger.

Price: too much for too little ($8.98 for 4 oz )

Packaging: 10/10 it comes in an awesome looking metal bottle

Overall: 5/10

This is a new special feature here on TTF. We want to give Justin his props for being a big part of not only TastetheFear.com, but the whole Chilehead community. Sometimes people don’t get the proper accolades that they deserve for their contributions, and we want to recognize these efforts by giving Justin his own column, not just a pat on the back. It is our way of saying thank you Justin for being a big part of TTF. This is the first of some of Justin’s old skool reviews that he wanted to bring back for all to read again. Enjoy.

JUSTIN:

I’ve been wanting to try <a target="_blank "href="http://extremefood.com/product.php?id=105">Blair’s Death Rain Nitro for a while, but I just didn’t want to spend the loot on it because I have a lot of homemade seasonings and habanero powders that I dehydrated and ground up myself. So when I saw this at the Chili Pepper Emporium(no longer in business) for 40% off I got a bottle. It is a 1.5 oz bottle and I knew that was different than the liquid ounces, but wasn’t sure exactly how much 1.5. My biggest fear when buying it was that it was going to be a small amount. When I got it I was happy with the size though. It is enough to last me a while.

I put the Death Rain Nitro on a large variety of foods, and I used it as a table seasoning, as well as cooking with it. My homemade stuff has pretty much replaced the salt on my table, and I used this stuff the same way. Anything I would put salt on I put this on. I used it as a seasoning in my salsa also but that didn’t really turn out as good. The best use of this stuff was on the grill. I made chicken, burgers, and will eventually do steaks with it. After using it on the grill I decided to use my own stuff on the table and save this for grilling purposes. I love grilled chicken, and I have never had a better piece of chicken than with this stuff on it. It’s not super hot but you can always add hot sauce to the chicken when you take it off the grill. A little bit of a good green sauce like Blair’s Jalapeno Death, Half Moon Bay Trading Co.’s Iguana Mean Green Jalapeno or Danny Cash’s Bottled Up Anger go really well with the flavor that the Death Rain Nitro gave to the chicken. Those aren’t sauces to add heat though. All in all I was happy with this purchase.

The picture above I took next to a regular 5oz bottle to show the size. The chicken pictures are obviously before and after cooking. I recommend using more powder than what this picture shows though.

Gardner resources inc., Highlands, NJ 07732

Taste: 9/10

Heat: 7/10 That is not a 1-10 with ten being the hottest and 1 being not hot, (id give it about a 5/10 on that scale), its 1 being not the right amount of heat and 10 being the perfect level of heat.

Price: It’s a good value, and it will last a lot longer than any hot sauce I have.

Packaging: I only wish it had those small holes to pour through so it don’t come out in clumps. The label is nice though.

Overall / Recommendation: 9/10 I would recommend this to anyone who likes to grill.
