Multi-Review: CondimentMan’s Evil Lime Zinger Hot Sauce & Marinade
By Buddah | December 31, 2008 |
Before the review commences, I would like to welcome both INCaneFan and his lovely wife MandyCane to our review team. They have a very clever review style I think you will find enjoyable. Thanks goes out to The Condiment Man who gave us 3 different hot sauces to review. This is the first one of the three. Enjoy.

Review 1: INCaneFan & MandyCane
He Said:
Bottle and appearance – The first thing that assaults my eyes as I look at the bottle and the company name is laughter. It’s catchy and I do like the name, but it still strikes a cord in my funny bone. The idea of a man/superhero in tights running around applying liberal doses of hot sauce to all the food he finds cracks me up. Ok, so it’s a funny name, but one I’m fond of.
Here we’ve got the Evil Lime Zinger. This bottle looks much the same as the others from the Condiment (He said cond…., think Beavis and Butthead) Man line and nothing distinguishes this one from the others aside from the name and the color around said name. I’d change that, but that’s not for me to decide. Bottomline, it’s a catchy name.
Consistency: As Ms. MandyCane states below, it does remind you of a dark applesauce in color and texture. There’s some chunks and seeds in it, but it’s generally smoothed out. It does pour well for a thicker sauce and separates a bit rather quickly should you care.
Taste: We poached some chicken, (thanks to Buddah for the idea), and planned on using this product as a dipping sauce for the chicken. Yes, it’s not a very exciting meal, but I figured it would give us a neutral base to work from while taking in the taste. I also simmered some in the sauce as an afterthought and I’m glad I did.
The first thing that hits you is lime, lots of it. To be honest, I thought it was too much lime and I personally had a hard time tasting much else using it as a dipping sauce. I liked it much better on the chicken I simmered it in.
Heat: It has a bit of a kick, but not much. I will say that I have a very high heat tolerance so I’d be a horrible person to reference when talking about heat. I’d give it a medium heat though on the normal chilehead scale since MandyCane thinks it’s got a zip. Were I to rank it, I’d put it at a 2 out of 10.
Overall: Love the name, concept, and overall it’s just unique. It’s has too much lime for me, but that’s probably due to the way we used it. I could see it working well on a hamburger or a turkey sandwich. We’ve got another bottle and that’s how I’ll give it a go next time.
She Said:
Bottle and appearance – Overall, I think the bottle is clever. This is the only line that I have seen with a “superhero” type of theme and being a fan of Heroes, it’s right up my alley.
Consistency – The sauce has a nice color and consistency. I would compare it to a dark applesauce.
Taste/Heat – The Evil Lime Zinger has a refreshing taste. It has a hint of lime and a hint of heat (POW). Not too much of either. Keep in mind I am a big baby with heat and this one was great. If I was to just dab the chicken in the sauce, without getting too many chunks, it had a light hot lime taste (ZIP). When I went all out and got the piece covered with the applesauce looking zinger, it had more of a refreshing and fruity taste, still with a slight slap of heat (BANG). The chicken that was simmered it in had a stronger taste and lost some of the lime. Personally, I preferred the dipping.
Overall – I love the name and packaging. The lime taste was refreshing and the heat was just enough for me to tolerate. Out of 10, I would give it a strong 8.
Review 2: BLANE
I received 3 sauces at the Weekend of Fire Show to review from Condiment Man. This review is on the Evil Lime Zinger Hot Sauce and Marinade.
To start off with, I would like to address the label. Needless to say it is an eye catcher that makes you think, and then you realize it said Condiment. LOL! A+
Ingredients: Lime juice, Onions, Carrots, Habaneros, Garlic, Salt, Citric Acid and Natural Flavors.

Upon opening the bottle and taking a whiff, onions are the first thing I smell, followed by garlic, and that is about it. I tried a dab on my hand, and I must say it has an unique taste. The lime juice hits first followed by the habaneros, and lastly a lingering taste of onion. Next thing I did was cook up some Home Style Chicken nuggets and Mac and Cheese.

On the side of the bottle it states that it works well with poultry as a spread. I didn’t want to take a chance ruining this fine meal, so I poured a little on the side. To make a long story short, the sauce does not work for me. I don’t mean that in a bad way. Maybe using it as a marinade instead of a spread would have turned a better result. I see where others would enjoy it. The sauce reminds me of a cross between a steak sauce and a Hab sauce without the extreme heat. Heat scale would be around 5 out of 10 on a non-extract scale.
I hope the other reviewers had a better result, because I think the CondimentMan theme is really cool.
Review 3: JUSTIN
I tried this sauce at this year’s Weekend of Fire, and then told the people working the booth that I would come back and never did. I meant it when I said it, but I changed my mind and then spent the rest of the weekend not making eye contact when I walked past them. Its not that the sauce isn’t good, but it’s just really different and I have mixed feelings about it. The brand name is Condiment Man, and although it is plenty hot enough to be a hot sauce, the flavor is more like something that would sit next to the ketchup and mustard than to be placed with the hot sauces. The smell kind of reminds me of a dill relish, but I’m not sure why. The dominant flavor is lime and it really gives it a fresh flavor at first, but then turns bitter on the back of your tongue. It even leaves a little sourness on your lips. The heat level is higher than I expected and the burn quickly builds.
I tried it on a lot of different foods, but the area it really shined on was hot dogs, brats and burgers. It is a truly unique sauce that I like more every time I have it. I already said that I had mixed feelings about it, and that is because while eating it I thought it was ok, but nothing great. Then later it would sound really good and I get cravings for it all the time. I think it’s just because it is so different from anything I have had. Besides the lime, the onion is a huge part of the flavoring of this sauce which is another reason it worked so well on hot dogs and burgers. All in all, I am glad Buddah handed this off to me to review because it’s a great sauce and I highly recommend it. It just took me half the bottle to realize it.
Overall rating: 8/10
I would recommend this sauce to anyone looking for something different, and if you don’t like it at first, then give it another chance before giving up on it.

cool review
Hmmmmmm
Welcome Aboard the goodship TTF INCaneFan & MandyCane!
I enjoyed the read.
Good review! I don’t remember seeing this one at WoF, I must have missed CondimentMan completely! That’s a shame, I like the label and definitely would have picked up a bottle!
They were next to Intensity Academy, I think.
As I recall, they were located right around the corner from CaJohn. I wouldn’t be shocked if I was wrong, but Defcom and Intensity Academy were next to one another.
I almost forgot….
Look Ms. Mandy,
married us.
Married, but not really. Sounds vaguely familiar.
Great reviews everyone!
INcaneFan and MandyCane, awesome job guys. I love Mandy’s POW ZIP BANG style of he take on this sauce.
I too love the labels on the CondimentMan sauces, and did try them at JJ’s WOF (the sauces, not the labels.) . Really good sauces. Very different from the norm, that’s for sure. I meant to pick some of these up, but somehow missed them befoire the show was over.
Looking forward to the reviews of the other sauces from CondimentMan.
Great reviews everyone. Hudd, Sandi, this was what I was referring to when we spoke about that special review.
