Fat Kid “Hot” Habanero Hot Sauce

    By admin | April 16, 2007 |

Review: Fat Kid “Hot” Habanero Hot Sauce
    by: Blane

First off, let me start by saying thanks to Tastethefear.com for letting me review products on their site. I’m far from being an expert!!! But, I know what I like. I’ve tried over 100 different sauces. I’ve also been fortunate to work in the food industry for a large corporation, dealing with R&D and the production aspect of the business. I hold two degrees. I received my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Central Oklahoma and furthered my education at Iowa State University in Meat and Poultry Science. Last but not least I’m a true Chile Head (Does this help with reviewing products? Probably not….lol) Alright, enough of that. Let’s get reviewing.

    HWL Eat's Fat Kid's

Bottle / Label: Nice happy little Habanero smiling at you on the label. Great name for a company and sauce “FAT KID”, you got to love it. On the side it has a nice little chart rating the heat of the sauce. It also has a sweet little read that goes like this:

We at Fat Kid Sauces are proud of our signature sauces. Use them on Sandwiches, eggs, pizza, steak & chicken. Add flavor and spice to sauces and chili. Also great as a marinade. It goes on to say: We know there are a lot of choices out there. Thank You for choosing Fat Kid Sauces. Whether you like it mild to extreme (or any level in between), Fat Kid Sauces has a sauce for you. So choose your color, feel the heat, & most of all enjoy….

I will add that the shrink band was a little crooked….lol…. Just kidding! If a crooked band or off centered label will deter you from buying a sauce, I suggest you buy your sauce at the grocery store….

It’s no secret that I’ve been a BIG fan of FAT KID SAUCE since they released their first product in 2006. There are 4 heat level’s currently: Mild, Medium, Hot and Extreme. I’m reviewing the Hot which won a 1st place 2007 Scovie Award.

INGREDIENTS: Tomato, Habanero, Bell Pepper, Red Wine Vinegar, Onion, Garlic, Herbs & Spices.

Visual & Aroma: 1st, I opened the bottle to get a good smell. The aroma is unlike any sauce I’ve tried before. One word AWESOME! To me it has the smell of a spicy fresh homemade salsa, if that makes sense? I poured a little out on a plate, it takes a little effort to get it out, but this is not a bad thing. I never understood why people ripped a sauce because of how it poured? But again that’s just me.

    HWL Eats Fat Kid's

I enjoy that this sauce is thick, and as you can see it is loaded with spices, onions, peppers and a few seeds. Seeing this explains why it has such a fresh aroma!!!! Nice yellowish orange color, with ton’s of little bits and pieces to be seen. Very eye catching. You know there’s flavor before you even open the bottle.

Taste: I’ve used this sauce every possible way and have been extremely satisfied each time. Today though, I tried it on three different items. First of course was the Short Bus Winder Lick test. This procedure should only be performed by professionals and with proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) which translates into proper Head Gear….. This stand alone test let’s you see what the sauce consists of, that’s about it….. Needless to say the sauce shines with this test. You taste the sweetness of the tomato followed by the Habanero and Bell pepper which balance each other out nicely. The Red Wine vinegar is a nice touch. It mixes well with the Onion, Garlic and remaining spices…. I have yet to find this unique taste in any other sauce… Well done Mr. HUV!!!!

Tests two and three were performed on my lunch for the day. Second test was pretty simple, adding a nice dose of sauce to 3 slices of Humble Pie Pizza. If you have never tried a good hot sauce on pizza, you don’t know what you’re missing. This is one of my favorite applications for FKS. The third test was on one of my concoctions. It’s good, REAL good if I do say so myself. You start by laying Nacho Cheese Doritos on an oven safe plate. Cut Velveeta into little triangles and place them on the chip. Then place a good spot of FKS on top the cheese, finished off by a small piece of cherry pepper. Turn your oven on to Broil, place the chips in the oven and wait until the chips change to a nice dark golden brown…. The cooking process only takes about 1 minute…
FKS is very deserving of their 1st place scovie award. It is outstanding on whatever you decide to try it on….. Except on deserts. If you try it on Ice Cream and enjoy it…. I would say then you’re a FREAK of nature… But again, I wear a helmet.

    HWL Eats Fat Kid's

Heat: I would rate the heat of this sauce at 5.5, nice heat with a little sweat… It is a slow build, which lasts for about 10 minutes….

Final Thoughts: This is a must have in any refrigerator. The versatility of this sauce is endless. On several occasions I have used a complete bottle in one setting. This is in the Top 5 of my favorite sauces on the market today. I give the Fat Kid “Hot” Habanero Hot Sauce an overall rating of 9.5 out of 10.

I’ve heard rumor that a few new additions to the FKS line will arrive in the near future….. Keep your eyes peeled!!!!!!!!

Yea, every bottle I get from the guy is signed, how the hell does he expect me to open it and eat it if he’s sending me signed collectible bottles? ;) LOL! KIDDING, just KIDDING!

Actually, to me this shows a dedication to customer satisfaction that’s almost unheard of these days. A great sauce from a great guy that truly cares about his product and customers. This sauce AND company is a can’t miss in my book. Excellent sauce!

I bought this sauce at JJ’s last fall and thought is was fantastic, all of them are great. They have a very ” Italian ” aroma, not common at all and very VERY good. The heat levels were accurate, and the bottles look great. I need to order a cpl sets, 1 to save this time.
      Great 1st review Blane.

“TC, are you producing the Short Bus sauce?”

We have been on a small scale. After the production of the original limited bottles, Bret bought 4 cases (slightly different label) for JJ’s. Now he needs a few more cases. I’d be more than happy to work something out with you in order to get the Short Bus sauce into Fire N Smoke. We can make it happen bro! I’ll send you an email with some info.

“This is a must have in any refrigerator.”

I don’t keep my sauce in the refrigerator! Where did you get the goose, and what did he think of it? What is “Humble Pie Pizza? Of course you openened the bottle to “get a good smell” if you could smell it closed you would of thrown it out! What were you trying to set when you used the whole bottle? Do you always peel your eyes before you eat em? How come you didn’t say it smelled Eyetalian? Was it garlicky?

So many questions, so little answers!

Is it good with Mac & Cheese is the most important one!

The goose is a pet and after eating the sauce it shit all over the place… Humble pie is 5 different sausages, onion and green pepper… In one setting is a kind term for: My fat ass didn’t move from the T.V for 4 hours…. For the eye comment, I’ll just leave it at that… I said it smelled fresh, if I thought it smelled like italian I would have said so!!!!! Trying it on Mac & Cheese, well you know my answer to that… lol .. Hopefully this helps you out. I think I hear the Queen of farts calling you…lol…
