    For Whom The Bell Tolls

    By DK | March 27, 2010 |

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” – John Donne‘s Meditation no. 17 from “Devotions upon Emergent Occasions” (1624)

I haven’t been able to watch the video, but DK tells me that each year this ceremony is held in honor of fallen WWII vets. Dk’s Grand Dad was just recently added to the list of names called out in the video.

The first Friday of every month, the American Legion meets in the town square of my hometown to read the names of soldiers lost the previous month.

As TC mentioned, my Grandfather’s name was read in the video posted above. The decision to post the video wasn’t about my Grandfather, but is meant to honor everyone lost that has served our great nation.

The Legion here had there’s last Friday. A lot of controversy about it..made the news and the paper..schools wouldn’t let the JROTC participate. Very sad.
