Justin’s Review Corner: Blair’s Death Rain Nitro
By Buddah | September 18, 2008 |
This is a new special feature here on TTF. We want to give Justin his props for being a big part of not only TastetheFear.com, but the whole Chilehead community. Sometimes people don’t get the proper accolades that they deserve for their contributions, and we want to recognize these efforts by giving Justin his own column, not just a pat on the back. It is our way of saying thank you Justin for being a big part of TTF. This is the first of some of Justin’s old skool reviews that he wanted to bring back for all to read again. Enjoy.
JUSTIN:
I’ve been wanting to try Blair’s Death Rain Nitro for a while, but I just didn’t want to spend the loot on it because I have a lot of homemade seasonings and habanero powders that I dehydrated and ground up myself. So when I saw this at the Chili Pepper Emporium(no longer in business) for 40% off I got a bottle. It is a 1.5 oz bottle and I knew that was different than the liquid ounces, but wasn’t sure exactly how much 1.5. My biggest fear when buying it was that it was going to be a small amount. When I got it I was happy with the size though. It is enough to last me a while.
I put the Death Rain Nitro on a large variety of foods, and I used it as a table seasoning, as well as cooking with it. My homemade stuff has pretty much replaced the salt on my table, and I used this stuff the same way. Anything I would put salt on I put this on. I used it as a seasoning in my salsa also but that didn’t really turn out as good. The best use of this stuff was on the grill. I made chicken, burgers, and will eventually do steaks with it. After using it on the grill I decided to use my own stuff on the table and save this for grilling purposes. I love grilled chicken, and I have never had a better piece of chicken than with this stuff on it. It’s not super hot but you can always add hot sauce to the chicken when you take it off the grill. A little bit of a good green sauce like Blair’s Jalapeno Death, Half Moon Bay Trading Co.’s Iguana Mean Green Jalapeno or Danny Cash’s Bottled Up Anger go really well with the flavor that the Death Rain Nitro gave to the chicken. Those aren’t sauces to add heat though. All in all I was happy with this purchase.

The picture above I took next to a regular 5oz bottle to show the size. The chicken pictures are obviously before and after cooking. I recommend using more powder than what this picture shows though.

ingredients: corn syrup, natural pepper flavor(contains soybean oil), habanero powder, ancho powder, spices.
Buying info: 1 800-98-Blair www.Extremefood.com
Gardner resources inc., Highlands, NJ 07732
Taste: 9/10
Heat: 7/10 That is not a 1-10 with ten being the hottest and 1 being not hot, (id give it about a 5/10 on that scale), its 1 being not the right amount of heat and 10 being the perfect level of heat.
Price: It’s a good value, and it will last a lot longer than any hot sauce I have.
Packaging: I only wish it had those small holes to pour through so it don’t come out in clumps. The label is nice though.
Overall / Recommendation: 9/10 I would recommend this to anyone who likes to grill.

Way to go Justin,
Your Taste The Fears answer to “Goonie Nick”
there are a total of i think 7 old reviews like this one that i sent in to be published, all of them are reviews on sauces that i purchased myself and reviewed when i first started righting reviews for hsb so some of them might be unexperienced and not my best work but they still make a good read. if anyone knows when the Chili Pepper Emporium went out of business you will know how old this review is. i still have the stuff though and i used it a couple days ago (in curry). my feelings about it havent changed. also thank you to ttf for giving me my own column when buddah told me about it a couple days ago i wasnt sure what exactly it would be but it made my day.
also i dont beleive any of these where ever published on hsb, if they where i dont remember.
in the 2 years that i did reviews for hsb i never got my reviewer page, i never got access to the reviewer only threads in the boiler room and i didnt even get my name added to the list of reviewers on the bottom right of the screen. heres the list that i just cut and pasted

i dont right the reviews to be recognized i really do enjoy doing it, but it sure feels good though so thanks again.
i would read it if it was just the new news instead of the last three posts cut up and mixed in with the new info.
Justin you may want to pay closer attention to the Blairs news. I think there is something new in there. HeHe..see if you can figure out what it is…Feel Alive!
I’ve had this is my cabinet for a while – it’s ok…. Has a tendancy to clump though….
so does my underroos.
I sent an email to Blair hdqtrs about this review. Lets see if we get a response this time. I doubt it though, because they never responded to an inquiry about the Weekend of Fire show, and I even called them for that.
Nice write up Justin. Chicken looks great too.
I use the regular Death Rain on pork chop sandwiches. Nice review Justin.
Looking forward to reading more of your stuff.
yea i wish it had the smaller holes to shake it out of instead of the big opening.
Thank you for your contributions to TTF Justin. You did a good job on this review, but I must say that your latest reviews are a testament to your willingness to hang in there. You get better with every review that you do. Thank you!
Justin, your reviews ROCK and your are a trooper.
