Justin’s Corner- Marie Sharp’s Belizean Heat

    By DK | April 3, 2009 |

    Marie Sharp’s Belizean Heat

Ingredients: habanero pepper mash, capsium oil, fresh carrots, vinegar, lime juice, tomato, Creole spices, onions, garlic and salt.

I have seen this sauce and heard of it, but never really heard anyone talk about it or say if they liked it. When I first opened the bottle I put some on a tortilla chip and it was quite tasty, so I made a plate of nachos.

First, I put on the Belizean Heat, then Tostitos, then the shredded cheese. When it came out of the microwave I ate a couple and added more Belizean Heat.

The nachos were very good and I really enjoyed the flavor of this sauce. Something about it reminds me of the Walkerswood seriously hot Jonkanoo sauce, and if you have had this sauce and like it, I would recommend trying the Walkerswood. I tried this sauce on a variety of foods and it went good with everything I put it on, especially the egg rolls. I used this sauce in place of soy sauce and just poured a little on each bit as I was eating.

It is a fairly thin sauce, but not to the point of being runny, and you can see in the picture the bits of seeds in it. The heat wasn’t high, but the flavor is good enough to buy it again. I have a bottle of Marie Sharp’s Beware in the cabinet ready to be opened, and when I read the ingredients they are about the same with only two small differences. The Belizean Heat says lime juice and Creole Spices Beware says key lime juice and n’awlins Cajun spices and Creole spices. I know Beware is supposed to be a hotter sauce, and I’m hoping its just a hotter version of Belizean Heat, because the only way to make Belizean Heat better would be to make it a little hotter.

    Taste: 9/10
    Heat: 3/10
    Smell: great
Consistency/Thickness: 10/10 for both, I like my sauces a little thin but not to the point that they are runny and don’t stay on your food, and this sauce is perfect.
Price: $5.50 is the price on my bottle and its well worth it.
Recommendation: Would I buy it again? Yes and yes.

    Buying info:
I got this off the bottle made by Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods ltd. Stann Creek Belize, Central America. I looked it up and got this http://www.mariesharps-bz.com

I’ve never tried any of the Marie Sharp’s sauces, but this one looks interesting.

      Nice pics and review Justin.

Nice review Justin! The local store used to sell just the mild…but no more..
I have several of Marie Sharp’s sauces, the mild and hot.. Love the Orange pulp and Grapefruit sauces. Use them in cooking. Great for seafood!
Haven’t seen the Belezean yet. Not sure that I would like it just because of the capsium oil…may be a bit too strong.

I can get all of the Marie Sharps sauces at my local Wal-Mart for less than $3 per bottle. Money well spent! Great bargain for a quality product!

Marie Sharp’s have a nice flavor in their products. I first tried them after someone got me their mini bottles from a cruise trip to some tropical island. One of the bottles was the Belizean Heat. It has a nice heat level and the flavor is quite good as most of their sauces are. I always get mixed up between them and Melinda’s.

Hmmm, interesting. I’m going to have to pick up a bottle some time.

don’t confuse Melinda’s and Marie Sharp’s. Melindas ripped off Marie Sharp’s by brokering an exclusive importation deal and then stealing the sauce out from under her.

You forgot to mention the warning on the bottle, something like this sauce is very hot do not play tricks on the weak or elderly. That’s the part that got me to buy it. Very tasty, the flavor kind of reminds me of the hot cauliflower giardinera.

Thanks for the reminder Sam. Marie Sharps is the real deal, and I highly recommend it over the Melinda’s knockoffs.
It’s been my experience as a consumer that the Original Marie Sharp’s products are more affordable than the rip off, and the quality of the Marie Sharp products are at a level thats hard to beat.

We had tried Melinda’s first. it was in the local store..but not anymore. Marie Sharps was the same way…could only get one kind..then it disappeared from the shelf too. It’s not in the Walmart here..But we love Marie’s sauces.

i love reading these reviews that i wrote so long ago that i barely remember them. this sauce is one of the few that i have bought more than 3 or 4 times since trying it. not that i havent had plenty of sauces worth buying repetedly but i like to always try something new and there are few out there that are worth buying the same ones over and over. this is one of them.
