Leukaemia Foundation’s Worlds Greatest Shave
By Buddah | January 18, 2009 |
I read this post over on the HotZoneOnline, and followed it to The Hot Pepper, and I felt a need to get involved because it is to raise money for a cause that I have backed ever since I had money to donate. It is for the deadly disease Leukemia (Australian’s spell it with an extra A as you can see in the title) and the event is to not just raise money, but awareness to the disease. Australian Hot Sauce Maker Micheal (Mick) Stillman and his wife Marita are heading the effort.
When I was a kid around 7-8 years old, I watched a little girl in my neighborhood just a couple of years older than I was lose her hair. She always waved to me, and I waved back. When I saw her sitting in front of her house with her hair gone one day, I was a bit lost when she waved at me with the same smile she always had. I don’t even know if I waved back or not. She had such nice golden hair, why would she shave it off? I asked my Dad and he told me she was sick. He explained the disease a little, but at that age it went over my head. I just felt bad for her.
A little after that she wasn’t there anymore and I found out from her twin brothers who were maybe a year younger than I was, that she had passed away. I remember feeling sick to my stomach and I didn’t know what to say to them but sorry. What can you say? Ever since then, I have given to Leukemia whenever I had the chance. I have had money directly taken out of my paycheck for over 20 years now that goes to finding the cure of this horrible disease.
Please read on and help out in anyway that you can…
Mick Stillman:
We thought you might be interested in something we are doing in Australia in support for The Leukemia Foundation’s Worlds Greatest Shave.
A friend of ours just last week had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. For the last 7 days she has been receiving radiation therapy. They will keep her in the hospital for the next six weeks and monitor her progress. After this time she will be tested and we all will know if she has gone into remission or if she will need further chemotherapy.
This process happens every day to millions of people all around the world. The Leukaemia Foundation’s Worlds Greatest Shave is a great charity. Basically, an individual signs themselves up and raises money in lieu of shaving their head.
This year my beautiful wife Marita will be shaving her head, as I and my kitchen assistant Bob will be too. I have also created a hot sauce for the foundation, a medium heat Louisiana style hot sauce, we are selling it on our ebay shop and through our Takeaway. We are selling it for $7 dollars Australian and $5 dollars of it will go directly to the Leukemia foundation. So if you can help in any way please do.

The lovely Marita will shave her head soon:

If you would like to join our team be my guest I believe its fairly straight forward through the main website.
Shave day 14th of March
We will have photos.
Thank you.
Mick and Marita
Another man who wants to contribute is Bent of ALPHANERDS who is a fellow Aussie and loyal friend of Mick. He is running an auction on the same thread as Mick’s on The Hot Pepper website listed above(post #15). It is for a bottle of Pain2, and all money will go directly to Marita’s donation page and shipping no matter where in the world will be paid by Bent. It is live bidding, so just post a bid on the same thread. Bidding ends on Shave Day, March 14th. Here is the link to the Pain 2 multi-person review just in case you missed it: AlphaNerdz- Pain2 Hot Sauce
I too will shave my head for the cause, so if you want to see the pic, you will have to send in at least $10 donation to Marita’s page. Please help anyway you can, thank you!

I just ordered a bottle of World’s Greatest Shave. Less than $18 USD through paypal. This disease hits close to home for me. My mom died almost 8 years ago from something called myelodisplasic syndrome, I think that’s the correct term. It’s a rare form of leukemia that kills the white blood cells and the platlettes in the blood.
Sorry to hear that Hudd. I am glad you can help.
Thanks buddah. Wish I could do more.
Since Al doesn’t have much hair to begin with, I say that he should shave his legs as well as his noggin’.
Thankyou guys for getting this up and out to all the chileheads so fast.
We all appreciate the effort.
It still amazes me how so many people have been affected,in so many different ways, by this terrible disease.
Again thank you.
Marita and Mick
Big thanks from me too :nerd:.
pain2 auction just hit $AU99 – We’re calling it in AU$ & will do the conversion at the end.
Best of luck & thanks again
Mick, I would like my bottle I purchased signed if you wouldn’t mind. Thanks!
my $AU25 was $US18 so the $AU99 would be around $US72.
You guys have big hearts too for starting it off on the right foot. I just want to do my part to help.
I’ll sign them all if you guys like. they are all numbered too.
Now I have two batches one with red lids one with black. Both are tasty lousiana style table sauce. But red lids are mild and black lids are hot, just give me a heads up which ones you want if your buying through ebay.
Hudd i’ll send you a hot (black lid) whether you use it or display it.
check out the austion its rolling on,
I’ve decided to throw a bottle of Devils tongue jerk sauce in as an extra to who ever takes it out.
Hey Mick, could you give the American postage for more than 1 bottle for people that might want to get more of your award winning sauce.
No worrys
2 bottles postage = $18 US
(plus cost of sauce = $27 US in total for standard range products)
3 bottles postage = $26 US
(plus cost of sauce = $40 US in total again added off standard range products)
Postage is a real problem but at least with the exchange rate working in your favour it counter acts it a bit.
heres a good page from Australia post which has the break down in aussie dollars.

The bidding has grown woohoo – So we threw more into the parcel. So far it looks like this:
1 bottle of PAIN2 (last available vers. 005)
1 bottle of Stillmanz DEVILS TONGUE JERK SAUCE (THP Award Winner)
1 bottle of **************** Stillmanz new super hot sauce (small batch)
1 jar of Bents PLUM UGLY (last available)
ALL FOR $130 Australian
No Postage
THATS ONLY $87 US
Auction is now up to $200AU!!! It is a funny read leading to that amount of bidding. There is also a pic of the limited release of Stillmanz new super hot sauce- Irukandji Sting. Only 7 bottles made.
I think it is named after a jellyfish, but no clue without googling and I gotta get to work.
later! ===========:SB:

they are nasty little fellas and I’mso over sauce bottles with snakes and the likes lol
There sting is a creeping sutained burn that will put you in hospital…kind of like the sauce lol.
Last time I checked the auction was up to $251au, and the number of items in the box was growing as well. The Greater Aussies Brotherhood was manning up nicely.
looks like this so far:
from bentalphanerd:
1 pain2 vers 005
1 Plum Ugly
5 Douglah (chocolate 7-pot) seeds
from Ol’ Man Stillmanz:
1 Devils Tongue
1 Irukanji sting
from SCORPION CHILLI:
1 Scorpion Blood
for AU$251
which is US$163
oh yeah & postage is FREE.
If you ever thought about getting a collection of the best sauce from Oz – you should make a bid. Some of these will not be available again.
Tomorrow morning is the big day. I am sure it is all ready happening in OZ, but for me at 9am est I will be shaving my head. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo… This isn’t just a local problem, this is a world wide problem. Please donate $1 or more and help find a cure for this lethal blood cancer. This lethal blood cancer kills more children and young adults under 20 than any other form of cancer. Please help!
