Multi Review: Condiment Man’s “Mango Fireball”

    By admin | March 20, 2009 |

    Review #1: by Blane

This is the second bottle that I have reviewed in the Condiment Man sauce line. This time I decided to give it a chance as a marinade. But before we get to that lets cover some basics.

Ingredients: Onions, Mango, Water, Vinegar, Habaneros, Garlic, Ginger, Salt, Honey, Spices, Citric Acid and Natural Flavors.

    Appearance:
The sauce has a chunky mustard appearance, it appeared that Mustard must be one of its main ingredients, but as you can see listed above none is used. B-

    Smell:
Right off the bat when opening the sauce, onion is the first ingredient to hit you followed by vinegar and the faint sweet smell of mango. Overall a nice aroma if you like a sauce packed with onions. Rating a strong B

    Label:
As I said with the first review I love the Label, it catches your eye and you can’t help but laugh with the company name. A-

    Heat Scale:
Has a nice bite with a nice linger of heat. I would say a 3 on a ChileHead scale of 10

    Taste:
The onion is overpowering for the sauce, but if you like a hot sauce where the main ingredient is onion this is for you. I’m a big fan of onion so I’m okay with the amount, but it may limit it to food that you would use it on. The mango and honey helps tone down the onion, but after the initial taste and bite from the habanero your left with onion Breath. Solid C straight from the bottle.

I looked forward to trying this sauce as a Marinade. I’ve been on a health kick the last few months and using different low calorie sauces have been a Godsend with all the vegetables and chicken I’ve been eating (Huv would be proud).

Three chicken breasts were marinated for 12 hours, as you can see in the picture there’s chunks of mango and piece’s of onion throughout the sauce. The chicken breasts were baked instead of the usual grilling (12 degrees with 40 Mph winds made it hard to Grill). Fresh Carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans and zucchini were cut up and sautéed in a Tuscan bruschetta sauce. The sautéed vegetables were placed on a flour tortilla followed with Fireball Mango Chicken and topped with cheese and fresh Bruschetta sauce. The combination was out of this world one of the best low calorie meals I’ve eaten in a long time.

Fireball Mango was also used on a ham sandwich at work. The color makes you think mustard and after eating the sandwich I could have sworn I tasted mustard, but I think it was just my imagination. If you have this sauce try it as a marinade or on a plain sandwich you won’t be disappointed.

So, the overall grade on this sauce is a B. Only negative I have is if you’re looking for a Mango sauce, this sauce is not for you.

Review #2: by INCaneFan & MandyCane

    INCaneFan:

Bottle and Appearance: The same Condiment Man theme, just a different color around the sauces name. As previously discussed, I like the theme quite a bit. This time around though, the Mango Fireball is up for discussion.

Consistency: Much like the Evil Lime Zinger(ELZ), it’s a bit thick. It’s not so meaty that you will tire yourself out shaking it up and down, but it doesn’t just pour out like some sauces. I like the consistency since it’s easy to spread on a piece of bread or whatever you like. It does separate like the ELZ, but I’m fine with that.

Taste: To be quite honest, I’m not a fan of mango in basically any form and I really dislike the fresh fruit. I proceeded to forge ahead and to my pleasant surprise, I like this mango concoction quite a bit. The sauce delivery unit consisted of some fantastic looking pork chops Ms. Mandy had cooked up while I was at work. She used some crispy shake and bake so I just poured some out on the plate. We thought about pouring it over the chops, but I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or if it’d be too hot for her. Good thing we went this route since you’ll read about her reaction later. It’s a simple way to use the sauce, but it worked out nicely and I don’t think there’s much it’d be bad on. Very solid sauce in my opinion and I’m very happy I gave it a go!

Heat: In my estimation, this sauce is just a tad bit hotter than the Evil Lime Zinger. I will say that I have a very high heat tolerance, so I would be a horrible person to reference when talking about heat. I’d give it a medium heat (5-6), though on the normal chilehead scale and on mine I’d say about a 2.5 or perhaps a 3.

Overall: I’d recommend this sauce. As stated previously, I’m not a mango man and I liked this product quite a bit. I am very curious to see what the others reviewing this sauce think of it since I’m no mango expert. Is the taste consistent with mango or is it not and that’s why I liked it?

Special Note: I wanted to try the Evil Lime Zinger on a ham sandwich in my previous review, but I didn’t have the time for it. While lime isn’t cilantro, they do share some similarities so I figured this would work nicely since we seldom have cilantro in the fridge. The sauce worked as envisioned and the remainder of the bottle will be put to good use when I make some ham sandwiches for work.

    MandyCane:

Fires of hell….word for word, that’s what she said. I guess this means she’s out for the our review (or should I say mine?) of Heat Avenger.

    Review #3: by Justin

Like the first Condiment Man review this one is also a very unique sauce. I don’t really like or dislike mangos, but I was looking forward to trying this sauce. I had a lot of trouble deciding what to put this sauce on and ended up trying a few different things, my favorite being breakfast sandwiches. This sauce works well on a variety of foods, and although they do have heat to them I look at them more as condiments than hot sauces. I know that hot sauces are condiments but what I mean is that this is the type of sauce I grab when I am eating something that hot sauce usually don’t go well on. It’s got the perfect consistency to stay put on burgers and hot dogs and the flavor just seems to work with most food choices you might decide to pair it with.

Usually mango sauces only go good with a few different types of food and when they also have onions and spices and stuff in them I usually hate them. I just don’t like onions and fruit mixed together. I did really like this sauce though, and I am not sure what it is that sets it apart from the others I have tried because I can taste the mango, vinegar, garlic, and spices. I am not sure what spices they are, but I want to say something along the lines of curry powder. It all just works together in a way the other sauces couldn’t.

This is a difficult sauce for me to try to explain the flavor of, but the first word that I think of when eating it is fresh. I mentioned above that I think it might have some kind of curry seasoning in it, if it does it’s just a slight background flavor that adds to the mango and other ingredients. This sauce reminds me of another I have had called “Ass Murdering hot sauce” only without the mustard which is the main ingredient in that sauce. I also tried this sauce as a straight dip because I saw it recommended on the company’s website and it wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t worth using up all your sauce for either. All in all it’s a good sauce and I would recommend it to people.
