Reviewer #1…Xero:
Greetings all, Xero here. This is my first review ever and I would like to thank Buddah for asking me to do this. Even though he asked me to do this review right after starting The TTF Biggest Loser contest. I think that was his plan all along. I apologize for the quality of the pics, I am still waiting for Uncle George to send me my money so I can get a proper camera.
This review is on the:
Mild to Wild Pepper and Herb Company’s
Fiery Hot Habanero Sauce
(aka “Hot Time in Indy” )
Label Info:
Careful now! You’re starting to get into some heat that isn’t for ‘Rookies’.
“This very spicy BBQ style sauce features the famous Red Savina® Habanero, which I grow under license from GNS Spice. Some of these chiles I smoke dry first over an apple wood fire before combining with tomato paste and several other spices.
Like the other two before it, this one has hundreds of uses… in moderation. For you visitors that have come to Indianapolis for the Fire Department Instructors Conference, this is the same sauce that Local 416 sells as the “Hot Time In Indy”, in a bottle twice the size.
This sauce has received many awards and rave reviews, but be prepared for some serious heat!”
Ingredients: Tomato sauce, (brown sugar, vinegar, tomato paste), Stone-ground Red Savina® habanero, Apple-smoked dried Red Savina® habanero, Spices, Corn starch
I was extremely happy to do this review because in New Mexico we barbecue year round. The first thing that pops into my mind is ribs and chicken. I didn’t have any ribs but I just happened to have a big pack of chicken wings in the freezer just waiting for something like this. I took the wings and put them in the oven at 375 for 1 hour. No seasoning or oil. I then coated some of the wings in the sauce and threw them right on the grill. You gotta get those good grill marks. Basting with the sauce while on the grill is a must. The rest of the wings were rubbed up with my rib rub (which I will not name here as this is not my review) and then coated in the sauce, and onto the grill with the others.

Appearance: Pouring out of the bottle it was nice and thick. A deep maroon, just the way it should be.
Smell: bold and strong, not too tomatoey and not vinegary.
Initial taste out of the bottle: YUM- nice and sweet with an instant warmth that spreads quickly throughout your whole mouth. The heat level would be about a 4 on a scale of 10. The heat stayed level throughout the meal but was gone fairly quickly. Although, we did have potato salad as well and that may have killed the lingering. The wings were most excellent with and without the rub.
We had a few wings left over and I nuked them for lunch the next day, they were just as good.
Tastes of Opportunity:
Dunked my sons chicken nuggets- great
Dunked La Choy mini chicken eggrolls- superb
Dunked large frozen eggrolls with veggies- not good, bad taste with the cabbage.
Spread on bacon cheeseburger- excellent
Spread on a BLT- very nice
Dipped both French Fries and Onion Rings- outstanding
This is some of the best BBQ sauce that I have had in a long time and will definitely be ordering some and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Reviewer #2 Bob Tyler:
This is a very hot sauce and not for the faint of heart. While some might like it for its pure hotness, it seemed to me to be hot for the sake of being hot. It is an ideal complement for a chili dish that needs a heavier hand, but in terms of complementing a meat dish, it so overpowers any flavor the meat may have that I found it lacking.
Reviewer #3 Butch Taylor:
I received a bottle of Mild to Wild Pepper & Herb Co.’s “Fiery Hot Habanero (BBQ) Sauce”. My first impression
after opening the bottle and tasting it was one of a little heat, some spices, & lots of sweetness. I first tried it
on some beef ribs and hot sausage I grilled on the pit. The flavor came through and added a bit of heat and
flavor to both without dominating the seasoning, the Red Savina and Apple Smoked Smoked Red Savina peppers
were both visible throughout the sauce and added a bit of visual appeal to the meal.
I next tried it on some baby back ribs and drunk chicken, it was really good on the moist chicken, but almost
took over the flavor of the baby back ribs, but was still quite tasty.
As far as heat goes I would give it a 2.5 on a 1 to 10 scale, some of y’all may rate it higher.
Flavor wise I give it a 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. Would I buy this sauce? YES, it added a nice warmth
to everything I tried it on.

Reviewer #4… Sandi:
Label: just a plain jane black and white label…but includes all of Jim’s info…web site, phone number, fax number and location….and the phrase WE GROW OUR OWN
Looking at the sauce through the bottle it’s a nice dark reddish brown with lots of black flecks in it. Pretty thick shaking it up like a bbq sauce. The smell is like a bbq sauce also….brown sugar but then you can smell the peppers in this sauce.
My first taste of this sauce straight off a spoon was a surprise. This sauce is HOT I got an initial sweet but the burn from the red savinas quickly took over. Luckily it didn’t stick around for too long…3-4 minutes. But initially it smacks you in the face hot.
The labels suggested uses are sandwiches, french fries, chicken, bbq sauce, pizza, wings and meatloaf. Being on a diet I was kind of limited to the use of this sauce. But I took it to work to try on some meats…just so happened that day the boss bought pizza. On a slice of plain cheese pizza this sauce rocked It gave it this sweet flavor with just the right heat…for me that is….my co-workers used very little and claimed the burn was too much.
Next I used it as a dipping sauce….on steak I didn’t care for it..too sweet. But for chicken it was perfect. A sweet bbq taste with plenty of heat . I look forward to using it on ribs when my diet is over. I tried it on a piece of ham again a well complimenting sauce.
My favorite use of this sauce so far is on blackened bbq’s shrimp. Recipe to follow if anyone’s interested…
Overall: This sauce packs quite the punch despite the initial sweetness. Probably too hot for the general public. But finding the right recipe for it…I think it can be an enjoyable sauce. Great job Jim !!

this is good stuff
Nice reviews folks. I tried this at Weekend of Fire last year and had to buy a bottle. Very good BBQ sauce.
Wow, great reviews from everyone! Varied opinions and views too. It’s really interesting to me to see the varying opinions on the heat. To me this is one hot BBQ sauce. But even with the burn i get from it, I love this stuff. One of the best BBQ sauces on the market, with or without heat.
Hey Butch, you got me on the “drunk chicken”, I’ve never heard it called that before.
I’ve always heard it called beer can chicken. I think I like “Drunk Chicken’ better. Hehehe!!
And please tell me you didn’t waste a good ‘ol PBR on that bird. That’s what the Schlitz is for.
That’s one of my favorite sauces!
My favorite use for this sauce is BBQ Chicken Pizza. I use lots of Firery Hot for the base then smother it in Mozzarella cheese, shreaded chicken, crumbled Bacon, sliced red onion. Better than Wolfgang’s
We have a place that makes the best steak and it is called “Drunken ribeye”. They soak it in their own beer. The place is a chain restaurant called “Sweetwater Tavern”. Mmmm good stuff.
Jim’s FHH is my favorite bbq sauce out there. It does have some real heat despite Butch’s fiery hot appetite. He grows extremely hot peppers, including my favorite, Trinidad Scorpions. General, this is the guy who supplied me with the seeds you dried up.
Great review guys, and thanks for the contribution. I look forward to reading about the Award Winning Chipotle version of this bbq sauce on your next review.
Wolfgang Van Halen or Mozart? I didn’t realize either dabbled in pizza.
Most likely Wofgang Puck.
Puck….It was one of his signature dishes.
Yum….too bad he doesn’t know Jim Cambell.
I eat this by the tablespoon, just cause it tastes so good.
I really enjoyed the sauce, I based the heat upon
the heat I felt from eating it on food, straight
up I would give it a 4.5-5. DK, I am ashamed to
admit this but, the Drunken Chicken was made
using Samuel Adams Black Lager, or least part
of it  !

Welcome to TTF Butch. Make yourself at home.
You :moon::dork:s ever here of sarcasm?
Heat tolerance varies so much between people, there’s sauces that I don’t think are that hot that wil burn some people up, but like with this sauce, it lights me up pretty good, but yet with a couple of you reviewers it was a milder heat.
That’s why I like to see these multiple reviews, you get a broader scope of where different aspects of the sauce falls with everyone. You see the similarities and the differences and can draw a good overall conclusion at the end.
I want to see video!
I thought with the
you were funning around. I was pretty sure you knew which Wolfie he was talking about.
By the way, I told Bob Barker on you for wanting to eat my Miss Shania.
We can add a little FHH bbq to Ms Shania’s ribs. Yum!
You better watch it buddah, I’ll let her bite your ankles.
Yes, come closer my little dinner plate.
This is one of my top 2 favorite sauces. I’ve owed Jim a review of this for years….. I eat it all the time, it is like ketchup to me!
Fantastic Sauce by a fantastic guy.
Great Reviewer everyone and welcome aboard Butch and Bob.
This is a great sauce from a great sauce maker.
Jim always seems to be on the cutting edge of this industry.
KATO
Welcome to TTF, Kato. Don’t abuse the free beer sign, you might get loitering around your fridge.

New diet spoiling recipe tonite using Jim’s Feiry Habanero..Marinated some shelled 10-12 count shrimp in 3 different sauces for about a half hour. Then wrapped them in bacon and grilled them!! All were good but the MTW took the cake. The flavor stood out on the shrimp and the heat stuck too!! Again, awesome sauce Jim!
Great review guys! I am surprised it got rated so low on heat by a couple..I too think it is pretty hot! I love this sauce, it is one of my all time favorites! try iit on a piece of cheddar cheese, YUM!
Hi Ed.
I love to slice up some Hillshire hot links and cook it in the sauce. Mmmmm Mmmmm good! Just dunking chicken into a cup of this makes me want it everyday.
Thanks for all the kind comments folks! The heat ratings surprised me as well. Must be more of a wimp than I think since I give it about a 7
I was also told one time to use it as a coating on peanuts, dry them (oven, low temp) till tacky & then roll the peanuts in brown sugar for some spicy bridge-nut type snacks. Lady swore by it though I’ve never tried it.
Mmmm, Jim’s spicy sweet nuts! yummy!
Howdy Jim!
that doesn’t sound right at all.
Howdy Jim, still can’t get out of the firehouse for W.o.F.?
Not a chance  Matter of fact, I’ll be working a 48 hour shift so I’m stuck here both Saturday AND Sunday. The booth will be a lot prettier without me
DK, I’m not even going to quote yours!
