Sandi:
This was a “blind” review for me. I had no idea where or who the sauce was coming from, only that it was a mango pepper sauce. Thank you to Jung & Walker Inc. for sending their sauce to review. I was surprised to see that it came from Canada. It came with some business cards and a nice note.
When I got home from work the bottle was immediately opened. Bill and I took turns sniffing and trying the sauce straight from the bottle. It smelled really good, very sweet but with a strong onion and garlic smell. To me it almost had a steak sauce fragrance.
Looking at it through the bottle it isn’t too thin. It has little chunks that stick to the side of the bottle (maybe onion and garlic, and maybe some red peppers). Straight out of the bottle it starts out a bit sweet, but then you swallow and the heat kicks in right away. Still, the flavor of onion and garlic stands out. I’m a fan of both so that doesn’t bother me. The intense burn fades pretty quick but it stays warm on your tongue for a bit. We decided this sauce is not a dessert sauce. So it won’t be tried on any sweets.

It just happened that I was making Chicken enchiladas for dinner, so that was the first trial. I cooked the chicken with a bit of the sauce, then put it in a tortilla with some refried beans, red and green bell pepper, onion and lots of cheese.

Then I used the sauce as a dip. I think it really worked as a dipping sauce. It changed the flavor some, the sweet came out when used this way but the heat still caught up with you after a few bites.
Thinking about the smell of the sauce I went for beef next. Since it’s a bit chilly to grill out, I took the sauce to work and used it on roast beef. That’s where it really shined. It smells and tastes like a steak sauce to me. It gave the beef a sweet flavor, just like straight out of the bottle. Onion, garlic and burn. That would be my recommendation for this sauce.
Check out their website, I really enjoyed the history behind it, and how it is a Jamaican sauce.
