Recipe: Sandi makes Potstickers!
By DK | February 26, 2009 |
A huge “Thanks!” to Sandi for sending in these great looking pics of yet another great looking recipe. – DK
After watching Good Eats the other night..Bill decided he wanted Altons Pot Stickers…so I gave it my best shot…following the recipe..I don’t know that they turned out picture perfect..but they didn’t leak..so that was a good thing!
Potstickers are an Asian cuisine..the Chinese shop next to my store makes them but I’ve never had them before. I had a lot of won ton skins left over from Super Bowl making Hudd’s Ranch Stars…which were super yummy! But won ton skins come in packs of 60..too much for one meal!
Here’s the recipe link from Alton : Perfect Potstickers Recipe
In the pan…
Nice and browned!
All done!
We dug a bunch of sauces out of the fridge and the shelf to try with these!
My favorite sauces for this dish were Mango Amore and 4 brothers sauce…Bill’s was the Locura Mayan and Flaming Joe’s Marmalade.
Being an Asian dish we decided to try Thai Monkey first. Funny that it really didn’t work…too salty. So we went digging through the fridge and the shelf for any sauces that might fit this dish.
The Amore’s we had to try..Bill didn’t care for either one…the cherry was too sweet, for me too. But the Mango Amore worked just right for me. Gave the pork more flavor and nice heat.
Oaxacan surpised me that it didn’t work at all. I thought that since it was pork with onion and peppers it would…but you need a mexican dish for that sauce.
Dat’s Spicy garlic had way to much vinegar.
Chok on Dis flavor changed with the pot stickers. The sweet in the sauce disappeared. Tasting out of the bottle vs the dipped sticker…not the right sauce.
4 Brothers Hot Pepper Sauce definatly worked! It held the nice sweet flavor and a little heat that lingered. I used more of that than any of the others.
Bills favorite was Flaming Joe’s Tropical Fruit Marmalade..Sweet…spicy and it stuck to the stickers!

Nice job Sandra, I can’t wait to see the pics when I get home. I don’t fry anything at home, so I probably won’t make this one. I will just have to put a purchase online to Kraft foods for delivery.
>>I don’t fry anything at home…
Why not? Just curious…
I think he’s watching his figure.
Looks perfect to me Sandi!
Your dinners always sound yummy. I watch Alton, but Marla doesn’t like him.
Everything’s better with hot sauce!
Thanks :nerd:! You’d be surprised at how little oil it takes to make these…it’s not really “fried” so to speak.
I know it’s not the pizza recipe you wanted. I’ll get that one in soon. I don’t want to overload the Cap’n and DK with too many recipes at once!
Thank You DK for putting this up! You know how I love to share my food pics!:dtu:
Overload us all you want Sandi.
And you know we like lookin’ at your food pics and recipes.
I think we nned to start a new category, “Sandi’s Food Porn”.
Remember you asked for it!
I’ll get the next one in tonite.
I’m just glad you guys put something else up so that I don’t see
face everytime I come here.
I keep lookin’ at those pictures of the potstickers and I gotta do one of two things tonight. I either gotta find me a restaraunt that makes ‘em, or find me a woman to take home to cook me some. Would be a bonus to find both at the same place!
Woohoo! I got lucky!
Local place has potstickers! Well, sort of. They call ‘em Fried Dumplings. They’re really greasy and don’t look nearly as appetizing as Sandi’s potstickers. Probably don’t taste as good either. I had ‘em with Sriracha sauce.
Also got an order of General Tso’s Two Delight. Shrimp and chicken. Yummy.
Sounds like you had a good dinner!
The pot stickers I made weren’t greasy at all. Used only a tsp. of oil per batch. They crisped up nice before adding the broth..they plumped up and got kinda dumpling like. But finished they still had a bit of a crunch to them.
Maybe something I can make the next time all of us meet up if I have access to a kitchen.
Love General Tso’s! Always order it extra spicy. The place next to me adds lots of dried whole peppers to it. Yummy!
These things look great! Where’s the beer?
I knew I forgot something! I meant to put one in the pic of the mix of hot sauce!
Priorities Woman!!
No foo-foo drinks either.
I don’t know how I could forget that…maybe it was the beer I was consuming that gave me the amnesia
The next one has plenty of beer pics. I sent it off to DK. Should I send it out to you also Cap’n? Will do if your mail box isn’t full.
Aww damn.
Oh nooooooo! I ain’t sharing my pizza with anyone! Mmmmmmm, Mmm!
Just keep sendin to DK. If he starts bitchin or slackin on publishing ‘em, then you can send ‘em my way and I’ll git er done fer ya.
OK it’s all yours! I take it you got it? Last recipe took forever to get to you so I was keeping my fingers crossed. It’s a biggun isn’t it?
Thanks Cap’n! Will do!
I’ll forward the crumbs to TC when I’m done!
A whopper!
Yep, I got it! Thanks Sandi!
I figured he’d see it soon!
Thanks again for letting me share my food pics!
Man I somehow missed this post last year. I ws either working stupid hours back then or in a funk and just missed it. Looks good.
They turned out great. I was going to use any leftover wraps to make Betty’s ranch stars..but the recipe made 50 pot stickers!
