Review: Mango Amore from Fat Kid Sauces

I did the review before this product was available for purchase, and it was also during the time before the No Fear Zone was popular, so don’t let it be a suprise that the comments tend to veer way off topic. Thanks, Admin
Now let’s get to the current review that was sent in by Buddah….

Last year in my search for a hot sauce store on Long Island, I was also on a search to hook up with Fat Kid and his Scovie Award winning hot sauce. As the story goes, I never met up with him in the early going and had to order via the online way. For my trouble, this Fat Kid was nice enough to include a special project he was working on. The bottle had no label, and in silver marker were the words, “Mango Amore” and some scribble-like signature. There might’ve been a number, but I not being a collector didn’t care too bits either way. I understand the sentiment now, but back then I was all about the hot sauce. Well I kinda still am.
I had all ready had a couple of spicy versions of mango sauce from other companies, and the truth was I didn’t get it. I didn’t try cooking with any of them, so maybe I just needed to play with the sauces more. With the Mango Amore I kept to my usual fashion and just poured some on my chicken leg and thigh and went to town on it. My first impression was very much like the other mango hot sauces. It just wasn’t for me. I tasted a little on my spoon without the chicken and it did have a very tangy flavor. I had bought some fresh pineapple chunks at the store earlier and thought the mango might compliment the pineapple quite nicely. Once I sampled that I realized I had hit onto something. Fruit on fruit, what a unique concept.
The next morning, I took a banana and poured a little of the Mango Amore on it. Wow! This stuff rocked on the banana. I was making a mess as the sauce rolled down my banana and onto my fingers. Finger licking good though. I passed this wonderful idea to the Fat Kid, and he later told me how well it worked with strawberries and whipped cream, not to mention ice cream. I didn’t try it on ice cream because I am staying away from it, but the strawberries and the whipped cream idea were a hit too. In fact, I incorporated the banana whipped cream combo with the Mango Amore, and a new breakfast sensation was created. At the Weekend of Fire, my friend Eric wanted to try it as I suggested and he walked over to Jungle Jim’s and bought a load of bananas and whipped cream. Before long, we were serving it to passerbys and taking pictures of the happy tasters. In fact some people were looking for the relief from the table across the way, some guy named CaJohn was torturing people with his hot stock of sauces. People saw the whipped cream and banana and were too happy to sweeten their mouths with the refreshing snack.
There is a mild and a hot version of Mango Amore. The mild is too wimpy for me, and the hot has a nice throat burn, but nothing too bad. I gave some to one of my co-workers and she nearly lost her voice from the heat. I made it up to her and brought her back a mild version thanks to the Fat Kid’s generosity. She loves the stuff. My other NY friends got a bottle too and they said the mild version is plenty hot for them, but they really enjoyed it anyway. Just goes to show you the heat level of different people. Rumor has it there is an extreme version of Mango Amore, but this reviewer has yet to locate any, (hint…hint).
Now for those that try this product, please be mindful of my recommendation as a dessert topping. Since I first tried it with my banana, Mango Amore has also won a Scovie, as a dessert hot sauce. Buddah might not be the smartest cookie in the jar, but he is wise when it comes to food.
Interesting parties can buy it at a number of locals, but if you can’t get it near you, do what I did, buy it online. www.fatkidsauces.com

Is that Pyrate Parker?
Mango Amore, bananas, and whipped cream. Good stuff. This almost sounds like another “American Pie” spin-off.
I looked around forever for ripe bananas at Jungle Jims. It was worth it though.
