    Tennessee Whiskey Habanero Hot Sauce

I want to tell you all about a wonderful meal I had tonight. It is the second special one I’ve had in three days. I made an egg omelet, and loaded it with shredded chicken, cheese, and a little of my homemade salsa. I wanted to test my hot sauce on something else tonight because the other night it was used simply as a dip for a chicken drumstick and thigh. It was good as a dip. I don’t get into the smell of hot sauce unless it is noticeable. This scent is noticeable as soon as you unscrew the cap. It has a familar Louisiana Hot Sauce smell, but there is no cayenne pepper to be found in the ingredients.

Ingredients: Habanero and jalapeno peppers, vinegar, salt, spices and Jack Daniel’s Black Label Whiskey.

I am not sure if it is the vinegar or the Jack Daniel’s, but the scent is pleasurable to me. Like a smell from my childhood that I just can’t place. I think one of those candle companies should make a scented candle with this product, that is how much I enjoyed sniffing it’s contents. The shape of the bottle is also pleasing to the eye. It is shaped much like a whiskey bottle right down to the trademark Jack Daniel’s Black Label. They indicate on the label that their product is made from Tennessee and is 151 Proof! One look at the Nutrition Facts shows the hot sauce fits into most diets. No carbs, no sugar, no calories, no fat, no cholesterol. So it seems very much like a good start, but what about the taste?

As I said before, it is good as a dip. That is how I eat my food most of the time. Chicken and something to dip my fork into. I am a simple guy who enjoys simple things. Yet as I dipped my chicken and the robust flavor of the sauce danced happily on my tastebuds, I felt like I was doing a disservice to this wonderful hot sauce. Two days later, I decided to use my left over chicken breast, but in an egg omelet. I also threw in some cheese and my salsa because it is how I roll baby.

So here I was dipping again at first, and on first bite all indications were given a green light for sopping time. The sauce is deep red and when I soaked the omelet in the stuff it was thick enough to cling nicely even if it ran a little off the sides. There is heat, but I don’t get a tingle in my mouth, instead I get a nice sweat from it as I usually get from hot stuff. The taste is not overpowering to the egg omelet and mixes well with all the other flavors I have inside. I relish the chunks of chicken and soak more of the hot sauce when I get a nice forkful.
Overall this is a hot sauce that is now one of my favorites, and as I look at the 1/2 empty bottle, I get a lump in my throat. This stuff won’t last long.

A little history behind how I came across this bottle. I did an impromptu review while I was at the Weekend of Fire at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, Ohio. I reported on a few vendors that I thought highly of. One of those companies was Porky’s Gourmet Food. They have the “Historic Lynchburg Tennessee Whiskey Brand”, and this is a little of what I had to say about their company while I was there:

Porky’s Gourmet Foods- They have this awesome line called Historic Lynchburg Tennesse Whiskey Brand made with Jack Daniels. The line has great bbq sauces, hot sauce including a great tasting Jalapeno & habanero versions as well as sweet maple syrups that were so good. I can’t have these high sugary items, but they carry sugar free items too and are ready to expand their line further. I bought their sugarfree BellyCheer zesty grilling sauce which I enjoyed very much. My friend bought both syrups we tested as well as both the hot sauces. Great products.

The two products I bought were the sugarfree Bellycheer Grilling Sauce and the Tennesse Whiskey Habanero Hot Sauce. The Jalapeno Hot Sauce I was told was an award winner, but since the habanero was similar in flavor I bought it for the extra heat. The gentleman whose name escapes me helped me with a few questions and even tossed in an additional Bellycheer as a friendly gesture to my inquiries. I had asked him about the long brand name, and their many products. He told me of the success of the Historic Lynchburg products and that they were ever expanding and informed this fan of low sugar products that there would be more sugar-free products coming soon. The company has won quite a few awards for all their many product lines and at JJ’s I got a chance to sample just about all of them. They mainly displayed their Historic Lynchburg product line. They were so good from the bbq to the maple syrup to the hot sauces. They also have bbq rubs, ketchup, 2 kinds of pasta sauces, 3 kinds of salsas, cocktail sauce and grape jelly all made with the Jack Daniels Black Whiskey Brand. I haven’t had a chance to try the sugar-free grilling sauce yet, but I was advised to try it with some veggies so I might do that very soon.

Porky’s Gourmet Foods can be found at www.whiskeysauce.com.

I highly recommend you check them out for yourselves.

I’ve always liked these bottles. Back in the day when CF was a retailer we sold a ton of this sauce.

For those of you that will be in TN in Oct, several stores in the area where we will be has the entire line of the Tennessee Whisky Brand products to choose from. It’s everywhere!

Hey buddah, Good review. I have a couple questions, I take it that familiar Louisiana smell would be vinegar? What flavors dominate the sauce? Can you taste the whiskey? It sounds tasty and the photo is visually appealing, It looks like they used ripe red jalapenos. How much was it retail.

Great question, Can you taste the whiskey? How about Cajohns Burbon infused sauce? I heard that tasted like Jim’s Firey hot.

Sam i am not good with identifying ingredients. I know its good, yet familar to my tastebuds. Not sure if the whiskey stands out to me or not. I don’t think so.

Great first day in KC. The Vikings came through the lobby of my hotel. Spoke with a few of them and entered the elevator while 2 of their Pro Bowlers were inside. :D Also had bbq at Gates famous restaurant. Not too impressed. Now ready to watch some UFC. Later.
